Dear Ma,
As we approach the end of the year, allow me to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families this holiday season. I would like to take some time to reflect on the past year while expressing my immense gratitude to you all for choosing to fly with Wizz Air.
COVID-19 has continued to cast its shadow over 2021, bringing plenty of challenges and opportunities into our lives. However, by now it is clear, that despite ongoing uncertainties, WIZZ as an airline, or should I say, an outstanding group of people, has continued to make the best of the situation. From the outset of the pandemic, we’ve not only been working hard for you and your loved ones to safely return to the skies, but we’ve also been positioning ourselves for growth, as we make significant investments into our future.
Similar to last year, we have continued to invest in our people, our network and our aircraft. We have grown our fleet by 25 aircraft, launched over 300 new routes and our newest low-cost airline, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, as well as recruited, trained and onboarded over 1300 employees. Thanks to the unmatched agility of the WIZZ team, we were also the first airline to ramp-up to pre-pandemic capacity over the summer, meaning thousands of our customers were finally able to take a long-awaited holiday to the many exciting destinations that WIZZ has to offer.
While making great strides in the growth of the airline, we have not lost sight of what matters the most – remaining the greenest choice of air travel. Beyond offering the lowest fares and CO2 footprint to our passengers, our recent order of up to 196 next-generation A321neo aircraft will support us in reaching our goals of decreasing CO2 emissions per passenger kilometre by 25% by 2030, in addition to reducing our average aircraft age to 3.2 years within the next 5 years, further strengthening our position as a leader in sustainable aviation.
Despite our resilience during the pandemic however, WIZZ, alongside many other airlines, is not immune to the impact of COVID-19. The short-term is tough and bears with it many sacrifices, alongside its gains. I am hopeful that 2022 will bring a return to normality, and as we take steps towards a brighter future, we will become better people and a better airline altogether.
Wherever you are heading this holiday season, I and everybody at Wizz Air look forward to welcoming you on board and wish you a pleasant journey.
Sincerely,
|
